St. Paul, MN & New York, 1891-1897

"In 1893 The Merriam Company of St. Paul, Minnesota, succeeded the Price-McGill Company, which had been formed in 1891. The firm moved to New York city early in 1894 when it acquired the jobbing business of Saalfield and Fitch, 12 Bible House, Astor Place. Merriam soon moved to 67 Fifth Avenue and was incorporated there in February 1895... In the fall of 1897 Merriam went into receivership upon the application of Robert H. Merriam, president, and Arthur James Saalfield, a director." (DLB 49:302)
