Alice Hutchins: Arenas for
Happenings:
Exhibition Checklist
Alice Hutchins:
Arenas for Happenings is
composed of a broad cross-section of the artist's assemblages dating
from the late 1960s to the present, alongside a representative
sampling of her two dimensional "altered masterpieces" of the
mid-1960s. All works were donated to Alternative Traditions in the
Contemporary Arts (ATCA) by the artist. Although ATCA serves as the
primary public repository for her works and papers, Hutchins'
"playthings," boxed multiples, magnetic assemblages and "altered
masterpieces" are also represented in numerous other collections
including the Queensland Art Gallery (Brisbane, Australia), The
University of California, Berkeley Museum of Art, the Walker Art
Center (Minneapolis), the Staatsgalerie (Stuttgart, Germany), the
Museums of Modern Art in New York City and Belgrade (Yugoslavia),
Dartmouth College's Hood Museum of Art (Hanover, New Hampshire), the
Henie-Onstad Kunstsenter (Oslo, Norway) and the Tate Gallery (London,
England), among others.
[Ed. note: This checklist, as was the exhibition, is presented in an order determined by the curators, not by Alice Hutchins].
