Biography
Phyllis
Yuhas is the daughter of Gladys Nelson of Newton, Iowa. Nelson, a Republican, served in the Iowa House of Representatives
from 1950-1956 and was active in such organizations as the League of Women
Voters and the Newton Women's Club.
Nelson fought to have colored oleomargarine legalized and the tax on it
removed in Iowa in 1953.
Scope and Content Note
The Phyllis Yuhas letter dates from
1988. It was written to Suzanne
Schenken to provide biographical information about her mother's life and
activities, particularly her service in the Iowa General Assembly.
