History
The
Shakespeare Club of Marion was organized in 1909. The club’s purpose was the intellectual improvement of its
members, especially in literature and history.
Membership was limited to twenty active members who met on Thursday
evenings to discuss current events and study the plays of Shakespeare and other
literature.
Scope and Content Note
The Shakespeare Club of Marion records
date from 1909 to 1955 and
measure 1 linear foot. Included are the minutes from 1909 to 1955
(lacking 1917-1925 and 1927-1929), programs, and two scrapbooks that document
the clubs activities from 1918 to 1934.
