History
The Palo Alto Garden Club of Emmetsburg, Iowa was formed in March 1937. The club had fifty-one members when it joined the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa in 1942. The goals of the club were to stimulate knowledge and love for gardening, encourage the conservation of natural resources, partake in civic planting, and develop the art of flower arranging. Club activities included community landscaping projects, an anti-litter campaign, and garden shows. A Young Palo Alto Garden Club was established in 1965.
Scope and Content Note
The Palo Alto Garden Club (Emmetsburg, IA) records date from 1959-1994 and measure two linear feet. The records are arranged in five series: Administration, Club activities, Scrapbooks, Newsletters and Artifacts. Award applications include photographs of club members and their projects. Non-PAGC events consist of programs for shows of other Iowa garden clubs. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, photographs, and club histories.
