History
The
New Art Club of Marion, Iowa was organized in 1935. The club had four charter members whose ranks quickly grew to
twelve. The women intended to meet to
work on projects of needlework and hand-crafts. The name of the club was undecided when a member phoned the local
paper to announce that the new art club had been formed. When an item appeared in the paper about the
"New Art" club the name stuck.
The group met monthly mainly as a social club. In 1974, with dwindling membership and the increasing age of its
members, the group disbanded.
