Biography
Mildred H. Lavin was an assistant
professor in instructional design and outreach education in the University of
Iowa’s College of Education from 1972 to 1987.
She also taught general science for four years at Chute Jr. High School
in Evanston, Illinois. Lavin was the
head of the Outreach Education program at the University of Iowa from 1978-1987
and was the director of the Saturday and Evening Class Program from
1971-1978.
Lavin was active in the Iowa City
Business and Professional Women organization and chaired the "Women in
Higher Education Administration" conference in 1975 and the "Women in
Research" conference from 1985-1987 at the University of Iowa.
Scope and Content Note
The Mildred H. Lavin papers date from 1972 to 1988 and measure 1 linear inch.
The papers consist of
biographical information; newspaper clippings relating to women's rights and
harassment; a presentation made by Lavin entitled "The American Woman,
Higher Education and a Social Revolution"; a copy of Initiatives, the journal of the National Association for Women
Deans, Administrators, ad Counselors; and a copy of the speech Lavin gave to
the Superintendents of the Iowa Public Schools, "Promoting Human
Rights--By Promoting Women's Rights in Schools."
The three audiocassettes
(AC321-AC323) are entitled "Multiple Allegiances," "Women and
the workplace," and "Religion and mythology."
