The Know Your Neighbor Club (KYN) of Williams, Iowa, was a farm women’s club organized in 1926. The club held meetings on the second and fourth Thursday afternoon of each month, but limited its meetings in the summer because of the members many farm responsibilities. Club membership was limited to eighteen; small children often attended with their mothers. The club activities consisted mainly of handicrafts, such as sewing. The club also held social events, such as baby showers and family picnics. The club was still in existence in 1997.
The Know Your Neighbor Club records date from 1926 to 1996 and measure 5 linear inches. The records consist of a history, minutes, correspondence, and photographs. They document the activities of this social group of rural farm women near Williams, Iowa.
The history (1996) was written by long time member Marie Ricke. It gives a brief description of the club’s origin and the activities at club meetings. Also, it includes a list of the 1997 members.
The minutes (1926-1994) contain roll call lists of members, and lists of dues paid. The minutes also contain brief accounts of the events that occurred at club meetings.
