»History

In the fall of 1986, 11-year-old Keith Algreen suffocated in a gravity flow wagon of shelled corn on his family’s Iowa farm.  After her son’s death, Marilyn Adams and her family began a campaign to promote awareness of the dangers of gravity flow wagons by distributing danger decals through local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters.  In the process, Adams discovered that an alarmingly high number of children were injured and killed on farms each year.  Adams initiated Farm Safety 4 Just Kids (FS4JK) in 1987, just one year after her son’s death, in an effort to spare others the heartache of losing a child in a preventable farming accident.

Farm Safety 4 Just Kids advocates the prevention of farm-related childhood injuries, health risks and fatalities.  The organization has grown from a small, local grassroots organization to over 3000 members in 85 chapters in the United States and Canada.  Farm Safety 4 Just Kids has undertaken a comprehensive program that works within the existing farm culture to help adults become more responsible farm parents and to help kids learn to participate in a safe farm life free from harm.
