FALB FAMILY PAPERS, 1959-2003
BiographyFour generations of the Falb family have played girls’ basketball in Iowa. Born in 1903, Myrtle Kerr played basketball in 1922 in Lime Springs, Iowa. Kerr also played baseball at Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa from about 1922 to 1924. Later, she coached basketball at Clermont High School from about 1924 to 1927. Myrtle Kerr married George Falb. Myrtle Kerr Falb’s daughter, Karolin Falb, was born in 1932 and played basketball in Elgin, Iowa from 1945 to 1949. In 1952, Karolin Falb married Leo Lehman. They raised four daughters, Karalee, Linda, Lee Ann, and Kristine, who all played basketball for Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in the 1960s and 1970s. Abbie Larson, daughter of Lee Ann Lehman Larson began playing basketball for Valley High School as a freshman in 1999. The niece of Linda Lehman, Kate Cline, also played for Valley High School. Brooke Whichter, daughter of Kristine Lehman Whichter, played basketball for Janesville High School. A genealogy of the Falb Family follows this finding aid. Scope and Content NoteThe papers date from 1959 to 2003 and measure 3 linear inches. The papers consist of a sports collage made by Myrtle Kerr Falb around 1970, as well as newspaper clippings of the Valley High School’s girls’ basketball team.
