January 20, 1899 in West Branch, Iowa.
She attended the State University of Iowa (now the University of Iowa)
and graduated on July 22, 1921 with a B.A. in geology. Douglass attended a four-week field course
offered by the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago during the
summer session of 1919 near Baraboo, Wisconsin. She died October 14, 1984 in
Coralville, Iowa.
Scope and
Content Note
The Ethel Roberta Douglass papers consist of a report discussing the
general geology of the Baraboo District in Wisconsin written by Douglass in
1919 based upon the observations she made during the field course. Appended to the report are five United
States Geological Survey topographical maps of the Baraboo, Briggsville, The
Dells, and Denzier quadrangles in Wisconsin annotated by Douglass for her
report. There are fifty black and white
photographs contained in the report, most of geological formations, but some of
Douglass and the others who attended the field course.
