Biography
Ruth Miriam Roland was born on November
20, 1894 in Des Moines, Iowa. She
graduated from Drake University and married Earl William Cowden in 1920. In 1921 the Cowdens traveled by car from
Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles, California, where they lived the rest of
their lives. Ruth Cowden died in 1978.
Scope and
Content Note
The Ruth M. Roland Cowden travel
diary was written in 1921. Cowden's
travel diary from her trip from Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles, California, with
her husband, Earl William Cowden, in 1921 is the only item in this
collection. Ruth Cowden's son, Earl
Roland Cowden, transcribed the diary in 1996 and added photocopies of
photographs of their travels and a map of their journey. The transcription consists of a typed
transcription of Ruth Cowdens 1921 trip with her husband and parents from Des
Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles, California.
