Biography

 

            Begin text here:ğRuth Miriam Roland was born on November 20, 1894 in Des Moines, Iowa.  She graduated from Drake University and married Earl William Cowden in 1920.  In 1921 the Cowden’s traveled by car from Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles, California, where they lived the rest of their lives.  Ruth Cowden died in 1978.

 

 

 

Scope and Content Note

 

            The Ruth M. Roland Cowden travel diary was written in 1921.  Cowden's travel diary from her trip from Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles, California, with her husband, Earl William Cowden, in 1921 is the only item in this collection.  Ruth Cowden's son, Earl Roland Cowden, transcribed the diary in 1996 and added photocopies of photographs of their travels and a map of their journey.  The transcription consists of a typed transcription of Ruth Cowden’s 1921 trip with her husband and parents from Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles, California.
