Scope and
Content Note
The
family history was written by Margaret Strang Corothers in 1934 and retyped by
the author's grand niece, Lois E. James, of Iowa City, Iowa, in 1996. It measures 0.4 liner inches. In it the author describes the pioneer and
later farm life of the McDowall and Wilson families in Tama County, Iowa, near
the town of Norway, and the Corother's family in Minnehaha County, South
Dakota, near the town of Dell Rapids.
Of particular interest is the author's description of her father, John
Strang's participation in the Civil War in Company K of the 11th
Regiment of the Iowa Infantry Volunteers and subsequent reunions in Iowa of Crocker's
Iowa Brigade.
