long-time resident of Iowa City, Ruth Bonfiglio gave a talk at the Unitarian
Universalist Society of Iowa City on July 13, 1997 entitled “Through the
Years.”
Scope and
Content Note
The Ruth Bonfiglio papers consist of
a typescript of a speech given at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Iowa
City in 1997 and a videotape of the talk. Both are entitled “Through the
Years.” In “Through the Years,”
Bonfiglio discussed the various ministers who have served in the Unitarian
Universalist Society of Iowa City from 1957 to 1985, humorously describing the
personalities and projects of each minister and the effect each had on the
church congregation. She also discussed the politics of the Iowa City
community, its need for social action, a bond issue for the county home, civil
rights, open marriage, and the issue of women cooking for the Men’s Club. The
talk touched on significant social issues form the 1950s into the 1980s. A
videocassette of the talk accompanies the script.
