About the Electronic Version of Fowler's "Coffer-dam Process for Piers"

Please address comments to the creator of this e-version, Jeff Dodd, at this address:

The University of Iowa Libraries, Lichtenberger Engineering Library

The present electronic version was produced from an example of:

Fowler, Charles Evan. The Coffer-Dam Process for Piers : Practical Examples from Actual Work. New York : John Wiley & Sons. 1898.

The physical object is in the collection of The University of Iowa Libraries. Its call number is 624.15 .F78c

The original text was scanned with an HP Scanjet 3500c at 300 dpi resoluton, 256 level gray scale. The page images were processed using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 to remove color casts and defects. When detail in drawings was too fine to reproduce well at normal page size, enlargements were created. In a number of cases, these enlarged views were processed to sharpen lines, letters, and numbers to improve readability. When illustrations were not horizontal in the original text, rotated images were created as supplementary files. These enlagements and rotations are accessed by links above the border around the page. Pages x and xi are two parts of the same table. I have produced a combined version that is accessible via a link as with the other enlargements referred to above.

Each page was saved as a GIF file for the Web. An Active Server Page (ASP) template was used to display the images and provide for page-turning.

This work was carried out for The Lichtenberger Engineering Library,  a branch of  The University of Iowa Libraries
