The present electronic version was produced from an example of:

Åndés, Louis Edgar. Iron Corrosion : Anti-Fouling and Anti-Corrosive Paints. London : Scott, Greenwood & Son. 1918.

The physical object is in the collection of The University of Iowa Libraries. Its call number is 543.3 .A55

A note to the reader. This book uses the printing convention of placing decimal points at mid-height between the numbers, producing almost the same result as if they were intended as dot products.

The original text was scanned with an HP Scanjet 3500c at 150 dpi resoluton, 256 level gray scale. This scan was used to directly generate a PDF file, which proved unusable. The images were extracted from the PDF file and saved as JPEG images. To the extent possible, color casts and defects were removed using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 (PE2). The combination of low resolution and noise in the scan and variously noisy original material made it almost impossible to achieve consistency of image density, even using PE2. Minimal legibility was the best I could achieve. As the original cannot withstand another scan with a flatbed scanner, the present imperfect representation will have to serve until time becomes available on the face-up machine.

Each page was saved as a GIF file for the Web. An Active Server Page (ASP) template was used to display the images and provide for page-turning.
