We'd like all committee members to create a mailing list within their own e-mail systems so that they can do committee mailings easily.

    2. The suggestion has been made that we might want someone to attend the CONFU (Conference on Fair Use) hearings in Washington. The hearings will take place over the next several months. We have talked to the Visual Resources Division chair and we will put out a joint call on ARLIS-L to see if there is anyone in the Washington DC area who might be interested in attending those meetings. There is a major meeting scheduled on May 30, with preparatory meetings on May 16 and May 29. A suggestion was also made that we might want someone to attend meetings of the Digital Future Coalition. That organization meets once a week (usually on Thursday) at ALA's offices at 1301 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, suite 403, or elsewhere in Washington. Is there someone who would be willing to do this on the committee? Otherwise, again, we will put out a call for volunteers.

     3. We also need to find someone to manage the Committee's Webpage. ARLIS/NA expects each committee to put up a web page, and maintain that site locally. Links will then be made to the ARLIS/NA Home Page. Ed Teague is willing to give some advice on this issue. Is there a committee member who is willing to take sole responsibility for that?

    4. Budget, FY1997 (Oct. 1996-Sept. 1997) Katy presented a budget for the committee. As proposed, the budget would include:

  • $25.00 for ALA Washington Letter
  • $75.00 for the Chronicle of Higher Education
  • $500.00 for support of outside organizations (in lieu of membership fees)
  • $100.00 for travel for attendance at meetings in Washington

     5. Liaisons to other ARLIS/NA committees Attached is a list of our committee, as well as the other ARLIS committees with which we want to maintain ties. If committee members look at the Strategic Plan, they will see action items which relate to our working with various ARLIS committees. Over the next few weeks Katy and Hinda will work to connect with the various liaisons, and discuss with those committee liaisons what we might reasonably do in the next year. Please think about what committee you would like to liaise with, and get back to Katy or Hinda.

The meeting adjourned at 6:10, after a very impressive initial meeting. Katy and Hinda will send out minutes, listings of members, and a list of action items to be worked on over the next few months.
