Electronic Journal of Africana Bibliography
In 1996 the late John Howell, International Studies Bibliographer, University of Iowa and Yvette Scheven, Bibliographer Emerita for African Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, published in Web-based electronic form the Electronic Journal of Africana Bibliography, winner of the Scout Report for Social Sciences Award. Conceived as an ongoing journal, this first issue focuses on three areasguides for African archival resources in the U.S., foreign periodicals on Africa, and medical/health periodicals and books on Africa.
Professor Dennis Michael Warren was an anthropologist and leading Africanist scholar who taught at Iowa State University from 19721997. The Warren Collection at the University of Iowa Libraries includes 4,229 books, 3,738 slides, 107 videos,138 project files and note cards. A small selection of Professor Warren's slides has been digitized and made available online.
"The dictionary was compiled by Marcel Kervran, a member of the Pères Blancs, who lived in the town of Bandiagara, Mali for about 30 years. This dictionary has over 7000 head words. A second expanded edition was published in 1993. The dictionary (partially) represents the varieties of Donno SO spoken in and around Bandiagara.

Iowa Studies in African Art: The Stanley Conferences at the University of Iowa (1987)

"The International Writing Program at the University of Iowa (IWP) is a unique residency program that brings together the writers of the world. In 1997 the IWP marks 30 years as a facilitator of intellectual interaction, a promoter of global understanding, an advocate of literary freedom and a celebrant of the importance of writers everywhere. Founded in 1967, the IWP was the first international writers residency at a university, and it remains unique in world literature. The IWP brings established writers of the world to the UI, where they become part of the lively literary community on campus. Over the years, more than a thousand writers from more than 100 countries have completed residencies in the program."

African Peace Information Locator
The African Peace Information Locator will contain links to information on African peace and conflict resolution at all levels of complexity and in all formats. In addition to the usual links to Internet sites, the Locator will have information on unique resources in the University of Iowa Libraries, at African universities, and throughout the world. For example, it might point to an archive in Dar es Salaam or to a single manuscript at the University of Iowa. A search engine will be developed to allow for efficient subject searching, and a computer-assisted tutorial to explain its use for individuals and classes will be included. Thus it can serve the advanced researcher as well as the more inexperienced.
