Digital Resource Centers in Libraries

  1. Alexandria Digital Library: Earth
"The centerpiece of the Alexandria Project is the Alexandria Digital Library (ADL), an online information system inspired by the Map and Imagery Laboratory (MIL) in the Davidson Library at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The ADL currently provides access over the World Wide Web to a subset of the MIL's holdings, as well as other geographic datasets." See the ADL welcome page for a good example of a digital library's welcome, mission statement, and collection information. "The Alexandria Project is one of six projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as part of the inter-agency Digital Library Initiative (DLI)."
  2. The Kamusi Project
"The Living Swahili Dictionary" is under the auspices of the Yale Program in African Languages and the Council on African Studies at Yale.
  3. Multimedia Archives from the University of Pennsylvania, including Smithsonian Africa
Includes digitized images of African sculpture, city maps, and face masks.
